Parallax
A downloadable tool for macOS
Parallax
Free 3D, 180° and 360° video player for VR/AR glasses, for Mac.
Parallax plays 3D and VR videos on glasses that connect to your Mac as a display. It reads each video's format automatically, gives each eye its own picture so the 3D lines up, and lets you look around 180° and 360° videos with your mouse.
Features
- Plays side-by-side and top-and-bottom 3D videos
- 360°, 180° (VR180), fisheye, partial-sphere and flat 3D movies
- Detects the format from the video's metadata, file name or picture
- Drag to look around, scroll to zoom
- Full-width (3840×1080) and half-width (1920×1080) 3D output
- Your videos stay on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded
How to download and install
- Click Download and save Parallax-for-Mac.zip.
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click the zip. You'll get Parallax.app.
- Drag Parallax.app into your Applications folder.
- Double-click Parallax to open it. The first time, your Mac will say it can't check the app, because it isn't from the App Store. (On macOS Ventura or older, right-click Parallax, choose Open, then click Open.) You only need to do this once.
How to watch
- Connect your glasses and switch them to 3D mode.
- In System Settings → Displays, set the glasses to Extend, not Mirror.
- Open Parallax and click Open a video, or drag a video onto the window.
- Drag the Parallax window onto the glasses' display and press F for fullscreen.
- Drag to look around and scroll to zoom. Press S if the 3D feels inside out, and H to show or hide settings.
Requirements
- macOS 11 Big Sur or later, on Apple Silicon Macs
- HEVC (H.265) MP4 videos play best. 8K videos need a recent Mac
